thank you letter
To Paulo Cuelho
After almost two million copies sold and 67 translations made, Paulo Coelho’s novel, “The Alchemist,” is without a doubt one of the best loved fables in modern literature. Through his simple but heartfelt storytelling, he has touched and inspired millions of readers all over the world. I am proud to say that I have my own copy and I’ve read it several times over, continuing to be inspired despite almost memorizing the lines in the book. To all the readers who have been moved by this beautiful story, I feel like we should extend our gratitude to its talented author. Let me begin by doing so with this letter.
To start off my thank you letter I would like to congratulate you on your continued success with your books. In my opinion, however, out of all of them your novel “The Alchemist” has the best message. All too often, as we grow older we get desensitized and forget the dreams that we once had for ourselves. We get eaten up by the harshness of the system, lose our innocence, become disillusioned with all the heaviness of the world. Eventually, we begin to think that dreaming is only for children, something akin to a myth that can never be truly realized.
But your book has renewed my belief in the power of my dreams and the possibility of making it all happen. I’m sure I’m not the first reader of yours who has told you how much the line from your book, “When you know what you want the whole world conspires with you to achieve it.” has moved me. I think for many of us, myself included, after experiencing several setbacks it becomes easy to assume that the world is against us. So, I’m writing this thank you letter also for reminding me that the assumption is not true.
Whenever I feel a little beat down, opening the pages of my copy of your book has proven for me as an effective way to renew my positive outlook and get back on track. I realized we should not give up too easily on the things our hearts truly want. We shouldn’t allow ourselves to accept defeat and instead recognize that the rewards are greater for those who persevere.
I hope this thank you letter finds you well. Know that you have and are continuing to move the hearts and lives of many who read your novels. I wish you all the best.
